Water Venture Research STUDY
Turning a patent study into product design
Dpgw was contracted to develop a comprehensive report of water dispensing patents in the U.S. to support a proprietary water dispensing unit for Aquafina.
The 60-page patent report included market data on key patent applications, how dispensing patents were changing to meet new market demands, and blue ocean opportunities for new technology in the dispensing industry.

The U.S. water market has been rapidly expanding with new flavored, sparkling, and high PH formula offerings, but areas where water dispensing technology are used the most (public buildings, school campuses, and cafeterias) are not changing to meet new product demands.
Tap water comes from the fountain, but sparkling and flavored water from a can. What if Aquafina offered all three (and more) in a single dispenser?
Dpgw worked with a local manufacturer to produce a working model of an Aquafina dispenser. Our team presented the model to the client team with a turnkey marketing campaign aimed at college campuses across the U.S.
Aquafina developed two test versions of the dispenser and deployed them on five college campuses across the U.S.
Our report expanded from patent research to venture strategy and the client walked away with information for their engineers and a business model for their development team.
